Privacy policy

What we collect
- Your email address, when you plan a trip or create an account. We use it to send you the trip, save it to your account and let you log in.
- Your trip requests and saved trips: the places, dates, trip styles and any changes you save.
- Login details: if you set a password, it's stored in hashed form by our login provider. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address from Google.
- Technical data: your IP address is used briefly to stop abuse (for example, too many trips in an hour) and appears in our hosting provider's request logs. A login cookie keeps you signed in.
Marketing email
We only send road trip ideas or news if you tick the box asking for them. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and you can change this on your My Trips page. Emails with trips you asked for are always sent.
Who helps us run the site
We share data only with the services that run the site, and only what each needs:
- Vercel (hosting)
- Supabase (accounts and the database of saved trips)
- Resend (sending email)
- OpenRouter and the AI providers it routes to (writing the itinerary; they get the trip request, not your email)
- Mapbox (maps, place search and drive times)
- Wikipedia and Google Maps (stop photos, loaded by your browser)
- Google (only if you choose "Continue with Google")
We don't sell your personal information.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account and saved trips until you delete them. You can delete your account and every saved trip at any time from the My Trips page. To ask a question or request a copy of your data, contact us at contact@backroadtripping.com.
Children
The site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. Big changes will be announced on the site.
